Making the NHS the best place to work - a blog by People Plan workstream chair, Dr Navina Evans

This blog has been authored by Dr Navina Evans, Chief Executive of East London NHS FT and NHS People Plan workstream chair (Making the NHS the best place to work).

There is still time to tell us - what will make the NHS the best place to work for you!

Thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to join in the discussions and share ideas on how we can make the NHS the best place to work. Since the challenge went live on 7 October 2019 we have received a wealth of tangible ideas on what we could do to improve the working experiences for our NHS people. These range from:

  • On site free car parking and gym facilities
  • Normalising flexible working
  • Improving IT systems

We want to hear from all #OurNHSPeople. Tell us about the great things we should all be doing more of and the things that need to change. The feedback so far has highlighted that more of the same is not enough, and that the NHS workplace should be more collaborative, inclusive, agile, flexible and multidisciplinary.

Focusing on our people, their working environments, career development and ways of working isn’t a ‘nice to have’. We know it results in better health experiences and outcomes for both patients and the communities we serve. It is critical to the success of the NHS.

We know the NHS is full of committed, inspiring people with incredible skills and together we can make the NHS the best place to work. We can only develop the right solutions if we properly listen to our people and act on what they say.

Your feedback is hugely important to us and will help us to shape our thinking and priorities.

There is still time to tell us what you want and need.  Let’s take action – together - now.
